Hello again, I am excited to begin this week by announcing that the first phase
of the renovation of Joe Roberson Park by City Hall is now complete! An official grand opening was held Tuesday,
April 4th. We still have a lot of work today to finish all of the stages, but
we are off to a great start! Another
point of progress to make about our parks in town is an opportunity with some
grant funds from KI BOIS Community Action to purchase fruit trees from the
local Natural Resource Conservation Office to adorn our parks. Peach, apple, and plum trees will soon be
planted in our parks to add not only to the beauty, but also hopefully produce edible
fruit one day which will be available to the public. This also goes along with the Community Garden
that we are putting together this summer in the park on the east end of town. We are looking
for volunteers to help us maintain the garden for the community’s use
as they need it. If you would like to
help, please contact Debbie Vega at City Hall, 918-465-5361.
I am also pleased to announce that the Wilburton Museum is well underway. Wilburton as most of you know, has a rich
history and a storied past that needs to be on display. I formed a community of
hard working people that shared my vision, and they have been working
diligently over the last few months formulating a plan. The museum will be at
the old library on North Central Avenue. Sunny Collums and Leigh Baldwin are
the contact people for this project and they are now collecting memorabilia. If
you have anything that you believe would be of good use to put on display,
please call 918-465-3888. If no one
answers, leave a detailed message and they will get back with you as soon as
they can. This is an exciting project for Wilburton! It will only get better as displays are made
and we can share our beautiful history with anyone who wants to come and see.
Kudos to the hard work put in by all of the committee members.
The Spring Clean-up efforts over the past two weeks were a huge success. I
appreciate everyone's patience in giving us time to get everything picked up
and placed in the dumpster. I want to welcome all of the Wilburton High School
Alumni participants back home to Wilburton last week. It is always nice to see
those who you haven't seen in a long while. I'm proud to be a Digger and Alumni, a part of
the longest consecutive running alumni association in the United States of
He is Risen! Happy Easter, everyone.
Until next time, thanks for reading. And as always, if we can help, give us a call
at City Hall 918-465-5361.
