Mayor Stephen Brinlee explained the City of Wilburton Street Department policy for assisting our citizens in removing excess brush, limbs and furniture. "We realize that occasionally our residents need some help in removing a set of old mattresses, trees that have been trimmed or cut down, broken appliances, and large items that cannot be picked up by our Republic Trash Service. We are happy to assist our residents with this service, a service larger cities cannot offer."
"However, this service is not for construction projects or the emptying of household furniture. We do not have either the manpower or the capability of picking up a large quantity of items. We are limited by our contract with Republic Services to four roll offs and when we go over that amount, we must pay extra for the servicing of the roll offs. In this time of limited funds, we have not budgeted for the extra service; therefore, we must set limits on the amount we pick up."
As a reminder: we schedule our "City-Wide Clean Up" once a year in April. That is a good time to completely clean your garage or attic and set out those large quantities of items you need us to dispose of for you.
