An historic event occured on Sunday, January 20th: the first medical evacuation plane flew out of the Wilburton Municipal Airport for a patient who had fallen from a house in Wilburton. EagleMed flew their FW King Air CW-90 out of McAlester, landed at the Wilburton airport, then flew the man to Tulsa where an ambulance took him to a hospital for treatment. The man was examined and released later in the day from the hospital.
The EagleMed twin engine propellar airplane is part of the fixed wing aircraft unit moved to the Mcalester Airport on January 15th. It is a much needed method to transport patients quickly to larger facilities from this area when patients need treatment beyond the capabilities of the local hospital.
