Mayor Brinlee issued Executive Order 2016-1 on November 17th ordering all flags on City property to fly at half staff for one week from November 17 thru 24, 2016 in honor of Mr. Al Collins as a "much deserved honor for a true American Hero." Mr. Collins served as an United States Marine beginning November 30, 1939, and was one of those who defended Pearl Harbor that fateful morning of December 7, 1941, who additionally sustained injuries to his back during an explosion in 1942 at Guadalcanal. He continued to serve and defend his country until his Medical discharge in March 1944.
Mr. Collins' Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, from 10am to 8pm at Waldrop Funeral Home. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at 10am at the Waldrop Funeral Home. His Internment is scheduled for November 23 at 2pm at Fort Gibson National Veteran Cemetery.
