The City of Wilburton is governed by the Aldermanic form of government. The Mayor and five elected council member’s make up the Wilburton City Council. The Wilburton City Council enacts ordinances, inquires into the operation of the City, creates and changes City departments as well as is the policy-making body for the City. The City Clerk/Treasurer, City Attorney, Chief of Police/City Marshall, and Director of Public Works also sit with the Council during Council Meetings lending their knowledge of their specific area of expertise. Voting City Council members are the five elected Ward representatives.
City officials who are elected into their positions include one (1) Council Member from each of the 5 wards of the City, the Mayor, City Clerk/Treasurer, and Chief of Police/City Marshall.
The Mayor, City Clerk/Treasurer, City Attorney, City Marshall/Chief of Police, and Director of Public Works also sit with the Council during Council Meetings. Regular scheduled Council Meetings are held at 5:30 PM on the second Thursday of every month at Wilburton City Hall inside the Council Chambers.
The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the Administrative Branch for the City of Wilburton and Chairman of the Wilburton Public Works Authority. This position is appointed by a City-wide election and the Mayor holds an elected position four (4) years. The current term for the Mayor is effective from April 2019 to April 2023.
Serving as the legislative body of the City, the City Council serves as the voice for Wilburton citizens and their municipal government. There are five wards inside Wilburton city limits. All Council members are elected by qualified electors from within their designated Ward. The Council Members serve a term of four (4) years.
City Clerk / Treasurer
The Wilburton City Clerk is the Elected Officer of the City. The Clerk also serves as the City Treasurer and maintains official City records and public documents. The City Clerk/Treasurer serves a term of four (4) years. The current term for the City Clerk/Treasurer is effective from April 2021 to April 2025.
Serves as legal counsel for the City of Wilburton, as well as Legal Advisor to the Mayor, City Council, and all other City departments. This position is appointed by the Mayor and he attends all City Council Meetings.
The Chief of Police is the elected law enforcement officer for the City of Wilburton. The Chief serves the City and its residents as general keeper of the peace and presides over the Police Department and its enforcement officers. The Chief of Police/City Marshall serves a term of four (4) years. The current term for the Police Chief/City Marshall is effective from April 2019 to April 2023.
