The City of Wilburton City Council voted during the regular city council meeting in December to take on a new trash pickup service for residents and commercial businesses starting March 1st 2015. After a month of reflection and study from residents and business owners, the vote was unanimous to change service. The deal offered by Republic Services inc. proved to be what the council thought would be the best service for the citizens of Wilburton. New poly carts will be delivered to every resident free of charge with no deposit, as well as 4 roll off dumpsters for bulk waste free of charge to take up the slack of not having a local landfill anymore. Also, the rate was cheaper for residential pickup allowing the City to have room to sustain it's award winning recycling program. The city has done business for years with the Latimer County Solid Waste service, and regrets having to change, but feel it is the best decision with amenities offered by Republic Services for all city residents. If you have any questions please feel free to call City Hall at 918-465-5361 and speak to Mayor Brinlee, or contact your City Councilor. Remember March 1st will be the first week of the change in service, and all hands will be on deck to insure a smooth transition.
